SAPPHIRE COAST CONCERT BAND

  • Facebook

The Sapphire Coast Concert Band is a concert band based in the Bega Valley Shire on the Far South Coast of New South Wales in Australia. Membership comprises approximately 30 to 40 instrumentalists, including students from area secondary schools and adults from the local communities.

The Sapphire Coast Concert Band owns an extensive musical library and performs throughout the year at community events, such as ANZAC Day celebrations and Carols by Candlelight. In addition, the band presents an annual concert in May of each year. The conductors are David Willis (concert band) and Geoff Willis (big band).

Rehearsals are held each Thursday evening during the school term from 6:15-8:30pm (concert band) and 8:30-10pm (big band) at the Pambula Showground Pavillion at Pambula Beach.

The band was established in 2002 by Ms Kelly Pettigrove (a local music teacher) and the late Neil McGill (musician and member of the Down South Jazz Club). Both shared a vision of creating a community based music group that would bring together the diverse and rich musical talents of local residents and encourage the ongoing development of young musicians.

Consequently, the Sapphire Coast Concert Band was set up to foster musical talent in the Bega Valley Shire by creating a community concert band where skills could be developed and encouraged for musicians of all ages.
