About the Event

The next workshop is planned for Wednesday 30th October 2019 from 1pm to 6pm (later start time for afternoon light). On this day, On the Perch are normally closed. So, not only will you have two award-winning photographers to guide you through this workshop, this is a very rare opportunity to have more than 120 species and 700 animals at your finger tips and with no other visitors around. This workshop is limited to 12 people and includes afternoon tea.

The photographers for the workshop are Mr Harrison Warne and Mr Steve Sass.

Harrison Warne is a local wildlife photographer and film-maker. In 2017 he won the overall Australian Nature Conservancy photography competition. Last year he took out first and third place in the local Atlas of Life in Coastal Wilderness photography competition and this year he was a finalist in the 2019 Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year competition. Harrison strives to create images which reflect the behaviour and mood of his subjects, and is excited to teach others the technical and artistic styles of bird photography.

Steve Sass has been photographing birds and other wildlife for more than 40 years! As a previous winner of the BirdLife Australia photography competition, Steves images of wild birds have also graced the covers of a number of scientific journals and magazine. He is a well respected wildlife ecologist, and his intimate knowledge of species ecology shows in his portraits and natural behaviour photos of Australian Wildlife.

The sessions during the workshop are as follows:

1. Introduction

2. Animal Behaviour and Photography Ethics

3. Camera settings – what you need to know.

4. Guided tour of some of the aviaries that are not open to the general public

5. Editing – learn how to edit your pictures.

You will be able to photograph throughout the day and within all sessions.
