About the Event
In 2023 Four Winds commissioned clarinetist and composer Paul Dean
(Ensemble Q) to create a work that could be performed by fresh young music students and seasoned professionals alike. The composition titled
'The Bega Shipwreck' is intended to enliven and nurture relationships between musicians in the region who may not normally connect. To create this work, Paul collaborated with local music students and community music leaders along the coast to write the all-abilities orchestral piece. Across 2023 and 2024 over sixty musicians aged 6-70 have attended the workshopping of the work at Mumbulla School Hall and in the Windsong Pavilion. The response from the participants has been overwhelmingly positive and has ignited a thirst for more. We're thrilled to be presenting this work as part of our annual Youth Festival, empowering youth musicians through intergenerational creativity.
