BAR BEACH
The beach hub of Merimbula during summer, everyone loves Bar Beach!
A frequent stop for surfers checking the waves, a favourite with families and a superior BBQ and picnic spot, Bar Beach is a local hangout. Usually bustling with activity and happy beach-goers on hot days, it's a fun place to watch the action and take a refreshing dip.
Walk along the rocks towards the lake for a more secluded swim, or down towards the mouth for some excellent snorkeling. Bar Beach is quite sheltered and is often a good spot to avoid the wind.
The tidal current from Merimbula Lake does run through here, so if you're a strong swimmer and want to swim to the other side beware of boats crossing and the current - best to attempt it at low tide.
A pretty walk along the lake can take to towards town, where you'll pass through lush green gullies and enjoy views of the emerald water along the way - eventually taking you to Spencer Park. (Or you can walk to Bar Beach from town along this track).
Trek up the hill towards the Wharf for "Shark Lookout" a little clifftop lookout with a very big view across the bay and to the south, another good place to whale watch during the season (August to November).
There is disabled access parking, and an accessible viewing platform at the bottom of the road too, it's a great place to watch the sun set.
