NORTH TURA BEACH

North Tura Beach sits in between Bournda Island and Dolphin Cove and is a favourite beach-fishing and surfing spot for the locals.

Drive into stunning Bournda National Park (park fees apply) and access a huge variety of terrain including beaches, a lagoon, an island and some seriously good walks. This is a good spot to access the park as it's only a 6 minute drive from Merimbula and a fairly flat 1km walk will find you out at Bournda Island with lots to explore.

The surf is often good on the north or south side of the island depending on swell, and this is a great beach if you like plenty of space around you, there's only a handful, if anyone, to share the beach with most days.

Winter is also a great time to explore here as there's a plethora of hidden spots to discover, with lots wildlife and birds. In the warmer months keep an eye out for little Jacky Dragons sunning themselves on the rocks, and in the late winter and spring you're likely to spot a pod of whales coasting past.

On windy days they like to perform gymnastics, leaping out of the water, so don't let a bit of weather put you off, grab a warm coat and the binoculars and have a look around.

Also see Bournda National Park for more info about this beach and area.
